Heather Burdick BSN, RN

Hello, my name is Heather Burdick, and I am the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) of the Southeast Colorado Hospital District Acute Services, which includes Inpatient, ER, Swing Bed, and Outpatient services. I also serve as the Nursing Home Administrator for our Long Term Care and Alzheimer’s Memory Care Units. First, I would like to thank you for your potential interest in our facility and community.

I have been an RN for 19 years and am a proud Baca County native. I moved back to the area in 2009 to raise my family. I love living in small-town America, where we can enjoy the peace and quiet of our community and still be within a few hours of larger cities or the mountains. Our schools throughout the county are either updated or newer builds in the last 2 years, classrooms are small and our local High School partners with the Lamar Community College to allow students to start on prerequisites while still in high school allowing for a jump start upon graduation. We offer recreational seasonal sports throughout the county and our schools offer JH and HS sports in class 1A. As with any small town you can find cons but I see way more pros when it comes to our community. I must add that Amazon does a pretty good job of delivering on time for anything you may not find at our grocery store and dollar stores if you don’t feel like the 45-minute drive to Walmart.

We are in the final stages of updating and modernizing our facility with an official “open house” planned for the community this upcoming June. Our Emergency Department has been expanded from a single room with two gurneys to a dedicated hall with a "Trauma Bay," two ER treatment rooms, and a triage room. Cardiac monitoring can now be done at the bedside in the ER rooms and at the nurse’s station. Our CT is accessible just south of the Trauma Bay. The Inpatient Hall has been completely renovated to include 10 private rooms with individual bathrooms, one of which accommodates patients of size, and another is set up as a safe room for mental health patients. We also have a 2 bed “recovery” room post procedures interchangeable to use for ER overflow or more critical patients we are caring for. We see on average of 120-160 ER patients per month and census varies often from 1-2 patients on one day to 8 patients the next. The joys of a Critical Access Hospital in the rural area. We also added a new therapy department accessible from the inpatient hall.

Our Long-Term Care and Alzheimer’s Memory Care units provide intermediate care for both long and short stays. The LTC side has 40 beds, and the Memory Care unit has 15 beds. Each resident follows their own schedule, with open dining and a home-like environment. Activities are planned daily, and each room is equipped with a TV. Residents can go out on
pass with family and friends at will. Staff become very close with the residents that reside at these units creating a very family-like environment.

We are currently seeking Registered Nurses for both the hospital and LTC/Alzheimer’s sides; Licensed Practical Nurses at the LTC/Alzheimer’s and CNA’s at the LTC/Alzheimer’s and Per Diem CNA’s at the hospital. NEW GRADUATES are welcome! Whether you want to start in LTC for more experience before moving to the hospital setting, jump straight into the hospital, or work in both areas, we can create a schedule that works for you. We strive to create a fun and supportive culture for our employees, focusing on patient and resident care while fostering a strong team environment.
