Diagnostic Imaging/Radiology

Southeast Colorado Hospital District's Diagnostic Imaging Team Cares About Your Image

Diagnostic Imaging includes general diagnostic X-rays, CT scans (computed tomography), MRI scans (magnetic resonance imaging), and Bone Density Scans.

Radiologic Technologists are available during regular office hours Available, generally 7 am to 730 pm Monday through Friday and are also on-call for emergencies. CT scans and x-rays are interpreted by a licensed radiologist who is available to read studies electronically. All exams are sent by high-speed computer connection to RIA where the images are interpreted and a report is generated. STAT exams can be available in less than an hour. Routine x-rays up to 48 hours.Certain radiology, dexa, CT, MRI, Ultrasound examinations require a pre-authorization and or patient preparation prior to exam, please notify imaging department at (719) 523-2163 for scheduling and instructions.

X-Ray

A radiograph (X-Ray) is a traditional, painless and highly effective medical test that uses radiation to produce images of the body. This procedure is commonly used to detect fractured bones as well as abnormalities of the internal organs.

Southeast Colorado Hospital District's (SECHD) investment in computed radiology (CR) and its Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) allow all radiological images to be both stored and accessed electronically. Images needed by other facilities and providers are presented digitally to the provider you request or on a CD.

MRI

Preparing for Your MRI Scan

Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) uses magnetic fields and radio wave energy instead of radiation to view internal structures of the body that cannot be seen using conventional X-Rays. MRI provides detailed images of ligaments, muscles, and soft tissues which enable our providers to make an accurate diagnosis

MRI services are provided by Shared Medical Services on Saturdays 7am to 10:45 am by appointment only and must have prior authorization.

CT

Preparing for Your CT Scan

Computed Tomography (CT) uses a series of X-Rays to produce detailed cross-sectional images - or slices- of the body's internal structures. With an extremely high resolution, our new Hitachi 128 Slice CT Scanner is state of the Art. The Hitachi exceptional computer and image processing, is power that significantly enhances clinical productivity, allows two users to review cases side-by-side with minimal interference, fast scan times, detailed images, and an array of features to minimize radiation dose. This medical imaging technology is crucial in helping our providers quickly get an accurate diagnosis.

Ultrasound (Currently On Hold)

Preparing for your Ultrasound

Diagnostic ultrasound, also called sonography or diagnostic medical sonography, is an imaging method that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce relatively precise images of structures within your body. The images produced during an ultrasound examination often provide valuable information for diagnosing and treating a variety of diseases and conditions. It is currently not offered at SECHD.

SECHD is currently working to bring Ultrasound services back to our area. They are currently not available at SECHD. When they are available you will contact 719-523-2136

The Rural Health Clinic provides electrocardiograms and vascular ultrasound services three times a month through Ultra Imaging traveling services. If you have any electrocardiogram ultrasound orders, please call the Rural Health Clinic at (719) 523-6628.

Radiologic Bone Density Scanning

We can accurately assess bone density. We can diagnose with confidence, precision and accuracy with DXA and ultrasonometer systems for a wide range of clinical and research applications. Dual energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DXA) is considered the most highly developed and most thoroughly validated technique for assessing bone mineral density, according to the World Health Organization's report on the "Prevention and Management of Osteoporosis. " We can diagnose osteoporosis, predict fractures, and monitor response to treatment. Flexible Bone Health and Metabolic Health scans can be designed for your care needs by appointment through radiology scheduling at (719) 523-2136.
