Emergency Medical Technician - EMS
POSITION SUMMARY:The primary focus of the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is to provide basic emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. This individual possesses the basic knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care and transportation. The EMT acts within the provisions of Code of Colorado Regulations Emergency Medical Services 6 CCR 1015-3 and functions as part of a comprehensive EMS response under medical oversight. He or she performs interventions with the basic equipment typically found on an ambulance.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
• Practices within Emergency Medical Technician scope of practice and follows SECHD Policies and Procedures including EMS Standard Operating Procedures / Guidelines.
• Demonstrates current comprehensive, evidence based, professional knowledge and skills.
• Assesses and evaluates emergency scene and sets priorities accordingly.
• Takes on a supervisory role in the field when Advanced Life Support (ALS) patient care is unavailable.
• Focuses on patient centered care, team building and customer service assuring patient care is of the highest standards.
• Utilizes critical thinking skills for appropriate patient interventions. Works with health care team to adjust and improve approach to recovery.
• Evaluates interventions appropriately and assesses the effectiveness of care. Communicates and re-evaluates as needed.
• Communicates clearly and concisely within the department and with other hospital departments as well as other emergency services.
Required Education and Experience
• High School Diploma or equivalent or specific written approval by EMS Director.
• Current Emergency Medical Technician Certification within state of Colorado.
• Current BLS certification.
• At least 18 years of age.
• Must obtain certifications in IS-100.b or IS-100.HCb (Introduction to the Incident Command System), IS-200.b or IS-200.HCa (Applying Incident Command System (ICS) to Healthcare Organizations), IS-700.a (National Incident Management System), IS-800.b (National Response Framework, an Introduction)
• EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operators Course) or CEVO (Certified Emergency Vehicle Operator) – must obtain within one year of hire
• Valid motor vehicle operator’s license, with continued clear driving record. Repeated driving record check may be conducted.
Hourly Wage: $15.79 - $19.10 per/hour
