C.N.A. - Hospital
POSITION SUMMARY: Assists with routine nursing care to patients as directed by the Charge Nurse and in accordance with the hospital’s objectives and policies.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
• Assist the Charge Nurse for patient care plan implementation by contributing information in day-to-day management of patient care, carrying out routine nursing care measures as delegated, working performed evidence of completion of tasks as shown in patient outcomes, documentation and/or completed work.
• Delivering general hygiene such as bath, shower, grooming, and mouth/denture care.
• Assisting with elimination via urinals, bedpans, and bowel and/or bladder programs.
• Transferring and ambulating patients.
• Assisting with postmortem care.
• Assisting and preparing patients for meals, including feeding patients; assists in turn, cough, and deep breathing routines and with activities of daily living.
• Assisting in admission, transfer, and discharge of patients.
• Making beds both occupied and unoccupied.
• Maintaining record of fluid intake and output.
• Completing calorie count and other nutrition information as delegated.
• Providing measures of comfort and convenience (i.e., water, blankets, etc.).
• Maintaining inventory of patient belongings.
• Performs technical procedures as delegated and after observation by the Charge Nurse according to unit policy by taking and recording patient’s vital signs, taking, and recording temperature, pulse, blood pressure and respiration, applying heat and cold, taking height and weight and recording, working within isolation precautions, performing pre/post procedural care as delegated.
• Assists others in the performance of more complicated treatments or diagnostic procedures as requested/assigned and performing other procedures specific to clinical area.
• Provides support to licensed nursing staff by collecting specimens (urine, stool), forwarding specimens to laboratory, performing simple recordkeeping, answering phones as requested, transporting, or walking patients, communicating to licensed staff regarding patient’s condition changes, participating in care planning for patients, giving and taking report on assigned patients to Charge Nurse, participating in patient care conferences.
• Provides assistance and emotional support to patients and families by talking with patients and families, listening to patients and families, knowing and demonstrating activity supportive of patient rights.
• Assists Charge Nurse in maintaining unit standards by returning equipment properly labeled, maintaining clean/safe unit environment, maintaining unit supply standards, making appropriate charges for patient items, transporting of patients for diagnostic tests and therapies, keeping halls free of equipment and clutter.
• Complies with body substance isolation procedures.
• Attends meetings and in-service sessions, as directed.
• Requires regular attendance and punctuality.
• Performs other assigned duties.

Supervisory Responsibility:
This position does not oversee other positions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education and Experience

• A current Colorado Certified Nursing Aide license or temporary permit to practice as a graduate nurse’s aide in the State of Colorado.
• Current CPR certification.

Preferred Education and Experience
• One year of working experience is preferred

Additional Eligibility Qualifications
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, their families, and staff members

Hourly Wage: $15.16 - $18.31 per/hour
