Respiratory Services

Chuck Wilson Brad Ratliff
Co-clinical Coordinators
The Respiratory Department provides comprehensive Respiratory coverage
Monday through Saturday from
7:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Our department provides
services for pediatric to adults; however, the majority
of our patient population is adult in the hospital. We
also provide comprehensive Respiratory care in
the connecting Long Term Care Center and
Alzheimer’s Unit.
Respiratory Therapists are responsible for delivery
of all Respiratory-related medication such as SVN
treatments and MDI’s. They are responsible for oxygen
set up and monitoring of patient’s oxygen saturations,
titration of oxygen and recommendations to the
medical staff if changes occur. As well, Respiratory
Therapists respond to all cardiac arrests in the
facility or emergencies in the ER. They manage the
airway and intubate patients when necessary.
Respiratory Therapists are responsible
for
drawing all arterial blood gases, interpretation of
the results, and recommendations from those results
to the medical staff. As well, we provide the set up and initiation of
BIPAP with our Respironics Vision BIPAP machine. We adjust the settings
and closely monitor
the patient, providing recommendations to the
medical staff when needed.
Furthermore, the Respiratory Therapy Department
is able to offer pulmonary lab equipped with Ferraris
Eagle PFT equipment. This machine enables the
therapists to do complete PFT’s, some of which
include: FVC, FVC with Pre and Post
bronchodilator evaluation, N2 Washouts (lung
volumes), as well as DLCO (Diffusion capacity).
All of our Respiratory Therapists are
either RRT
or CRT credentialed and they are required to be
certified in BLS and ACLS. Our therapists are also encouraged to be
certified in PALS. Additional
credentials held are CPFT (pulmonary function
technologists) and EMT (emergency medical
technicians). Our department is small; however, we
all work as a team to provide our patients with
friendly staff and quality care. |
